i saw the best minds of my generation

Tue Jan 22, 2008, 2:10 PM
"I don't see young people anymore, I see 'youths.' you know, like the way they're described in police radio reports. slumped S shapes in their hoods, all madly texting eachother because they've given up on speech. standing there with their harrowed dogs, next to a bin full of burning grannies, plotting something awful like how to make cider out of blood". - Dylan Moran

This is a tribute to depictions of the great hoodie or hooded sweatshirt. I don't know when they first were conceived, but I know they became super popular in the 80's, especially during the grunge movement in the early 90's and more recently with street gangs and emo kids.

For me the hoodie is for comfort, yet it lends me a certain elusive or mysterious quality. I have noticed some wear the hood to be invisable, to be forgotten. Others, like me, wear it as an emblem, like a sacred handshake that only my fellow hoodie monks would understand.

If you wear a hoodie, then you know that it gives more than just comfort and warmth, it gives you a sense of being cut out from the world, like the hood is your own private pocket dimension. That is the way of the hood.

Welcome to DA. Sounds like you are working on an interesting gallery. I like the concept - have always found hoodie's to be mysterious if not sexy. :-0
